About the Colt Single Action Army
The Single Action Army was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1873 and remains in production in some form, giving it the longest continuous run of any American service revolver. The hammer must be cocked before each shot, each round goes in through the loading gate one at a time, and the ejector rod clears empties through the same port. Chamberings cover .45 Colt and .44-40 on the same frame, and the 7.5-inch barrel matches the cavalry pattern of the original. Today the gun appears in cowboy action competition, hunting with modern .45 Colt loads, and collector cabinets alike.
