About the Ruger Mini-14

The Mini-14 arrived in 1973 as a civilian take on the M14 service rifle, borrowing Garand-style gas operation and a breech design that runs with fewer loose parts than the AR-15. The 18.5-inch barrel stabilizes .223 Remington loads, the factory magazine carries twenty rounds, and the stock gives the rifle the profile of a ranch tool rather than a tactical one. Ranch versions added a receiver-mounted scope ring for modern optics. Recoil is mild, the action tolerates neglect, and the rifles have spent decades culling predators and clearing feral hogs from agricultural land.
