About the FN 509
The FN 509 grew out of FN's entry to the United States Army Modular Handgun System competition, carrying over a steel-reinforced polymer frame and a 17-round magazine while adding an aggressive grip texture and fully ambidextrous controls. The mid-size frame balances a 4-inch barrel against a grip that fits most hands, and the trigger develops a defined wall with a short reset that improves as the gun wears in. FN includes interchangeable backstraps, and the slide accepts red dot optics with the appropriate plate. It is built to duty standards and sized accordingly.
