About the Mossberg 500
The Mossberg 500 answers the Remington 870 with an aluminum receiver, a tang-mounted safety that works naturally for either hand, and twin action bars that prevent pump binding. Steel inserts reinforce the locking recesses so the lightweight body still handles 12-gauge pressure over years of use. One receiver pattern runs across field, security, and deer models, with barrel changes handling the transition. Most field versions carry five rounds with one more in the chamber. The safety and slide release sit where gloves do not interfere, a detail cold-weather hunters appreciate.
