About the Mossberg 590
The Mossberg 590 grew out of military contracts, distinguishing itself from the 500 with a heavier barrel, a metal trigger guard, and a magazine tube anchored by a barrel clamp instead of a front stud. Sights are drilled and tapped for ghost rings or optics, and the extended tube on the 590A1 pattern holds more shot than most defensive pumps. The A1 variant adds heavy-walled barrels and metal furniture for rough handling. It carries more mass than the 500, and that weight softens the 12-gauge push. Police armories and home defenders choose it for durability.
