About the Mossberg 590A1

The 590A1 answers a military specification that called for a pump gun able to take rough handling: it adds a heavy-walled barrel, metal furniture at the trigger guard, and a steel safety knob to the basic 590 design. The magazine tube holds eight rounds of 12 gauge, the tang-mounted safety sits where the shooter's thumb already rests, and the receiver drills and taps for ghost ring or optic sight installs. The extra mass from the heavy barrel softens the push of full-power loads during long training days, which is exactly why departments specify it.
