About the Remington R1
Remington returned to the 1911 market with the R1, a full-size .45 ACP pistol built on a forged frame and slide with a five-inch barrel. The original configuration carried a three-dot sight picture, front slide serrations, and a trigger set for defensive use rather than bullseye work. Later variants added beavertail grip safeties, ambidextrous thumb safeties, and stainless construction, but the core package stayed a conventional single-action pistol feeding a single-column magazine. Shooters who came up on Remington long guns often chose the R1 to keep one brand across the cabinet.
